Fully diluted value is total supply times the current price — what it would be worth if every token that will ever exist traded today. Both inputs are exact: supply is a contract read, price the pool's own.
Its nearest neighbour is market capitalisation, which uses circulating supply. The discriminating difference: FDV can be measured and market capitalisation cannot, because circulating supply is a judgement about which tokens count, and a blockchain has no field for it.
Why no market capitalisation here
Circulating supply excludes team, treasury, escrow and investor allocations — some readable on chain, many resting on agreements that leave no trace. Aggregators resolve this by asking and checking by hand: reasonable practice, not measurement. How supply is computed →
What it costs you: our figures will not match a market-cap ranking, and FDV looks larger for any token with escrowed or unvested supply.
As of —pending, —pending is the median fully diluted value of tokens first traded in the last 30 days, per Locksley's indexer.
Worked example. 45,000,000 supply at $0.0418 gives an FDV near $1.88M. Of that, 14.6 million is escrowed or vesting. A market-cap figure drops those and reports $1.27M — a third smaller, on dates that have not arrived.
Where you'll see it. In the vitals grid on every token page, labelled fully diluted value with total supply beside it, and across new tokens. Never shortened to "market cap". How to read a token page walks the grid; tokenomics that don't look like a rug covers the supply side. Putting an allocation under a schedule is token vesting — Team Finance, our sister product.
Frequently asked questions
Is a high FDV a bad sign?
It is not a sign of anything by itself. FDV is arithmetic about supply and price, not a judgement about value: a large number can reflect a large supply as easily as a high price. Market cap versus liquidity →
